AIP ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
ENDORSES CONSTITUTION PARTY'S PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE
Mark Chryson
Memory Lake, AK
March 13, 2004
FAIRBANKS - Pikes Waterfront Lodge, Today was a first for the Alaskan Independence Party. For the first time in the history of the party, the Alaskan Independence Party not only decided to have a candidate represent the party in a federal election, but they chose to nominate and endores Michael Peroutka, the Constitution Party's presidential candidate.
Mr. Peroutka had several representatives in attendence, including Janine Hansen, Western States representative for the Constitution Party. Janine traveled from Nevada to attend the convention in Fairbanks.
Another first for this convention was the replacement of half the executive board. Secretary Diana Glotfelty, Vice Chairman John Glotfelty stepped down in order to relocate and serve the party in different positions. Chairman Mark Chryson retired as chairman and will continue to serve the Alaskan Independence Party in a liason position with Canadian groups and will maintain his webmastering skills for the AIP's award winning web site.
Mark stated, "How can I say that I believe in term limits if I refuse to limit my own term? My time as chairman of the Alaskan Independence Party will never be forgotten."
A resolution in recognition of his dedication, involvement and appreciation was passed without dissent. These sentiments were expressed by delgates and convention guests alike.
Parlimentarian Dee Roberts, Fairbanks, Vice Chairman Pat Skuza, Kenai, and Treasurer Linda Winkleman, North Pole, were re-elected to their positions. Rita Leake, Fairbanks was elected as secretary. In an unprecedented move, Linda Winkleman was also elected as the first female chairman. Linda will serve as both chairman and treasurer. She will appoint a second vice chair when an appropiate candidate is found.
In her first official move as chairman, she appointed Dave Eberhart from Fairbanks to serve as ambassador to the Yukon Territory where he mines. John Glotfelty will serve as ambassador at large. Mark Chryson will serve as ambassador to Canada.
The fiery red headed Winkelman as chairman will make a definite glitch in the stereo-type of flannel shirt clad image that the media has cast upon the party.
