TOWN HALL MEETING TO BE HELD

Alaskans, Just say No!
Alaska
Mar. 6, 2004

Anchorage—Today, the Chairman of “Alaskans, Just Say No,” Eddie Burke, announced that the group’s first town hall meeting was held in Soldotna Alaska with hundreds of comments supporting the protection of the Permanent Fund and the dividend. Continuing on that success, “Alaska Just Say No” will hold their next Town Hall Meeting 2pm Saturday, March 6th at the Anchorage Assembly Chambers.

“We were extremely grateful to have such a positive showing in Soldotna and now residents all over Anchorage and Eagle River will have an opportunity to voice their feelings too. The Governor and members of the legislature have failed to hold these public hearings on the future of the dividend, so we will provide this public forum,” said Burke.

“We will have more opportunities for the people to speak in Fairbanks and the Mat-Su valley and will provide those dates and times at a later date,” said Burke.

“These Town Hall meetings will give the public a better opportunity to voice their concerns that were not heard in Fairbanks. We are not paying for people to speak, we are giving people the ability to speak,” said Jerry Ward one of the group’s Honorary Chairs.

“This meeting will differ slightly from the Soldotna meeting in that financial statements of state agencies will be available showing exacting where the funds can come from this year to plug the fiscal gap without a raid on the Permanent Fund”, according to Anchorage Chairman Jim Crawford. Crawford continued, “Billions of dollars are available to the Governor and Legislature today to transfer to the Constitutional Budget Reserve if they have the will to use the assets they control without attacking the Permanent Fund.”
