John Glotfelty
Delta Junction, Alaska
August 12, 2001

Lady Liberty calls from afar. She has seen the erosion of her ideals and is whispering from the stars. She is pleading for us to listen so that once again we can regain our dreams. She calls to the young giving them hope and courage to reach out and live their dreams. She calls to her warriors, the fighting men and women of America past and present, to one last time look at our oath and stand, crawl or whatever it takes to serve her in her hour of need. She is calling to all Alaskans who are the keepers of the American Dream, the Alaskan Dream and the Pioneer's creed to stand up in the great land where we know we are free.

The Pioneer's creed: The cowards donít come; the weak flee at first snowfall, only the brave stay the course.

When America was young all believed in the Pioneer's creed. Now it is all but forgotten. Here in Alaska, I respectfully submit, we are as a people are the last to hold this creed dear. In the coming months we must be brave and stay the course and do what is right, not only for ourselves, but for those who will follow. Look deeply into the eyes of the young. You will see hope, love, and great love of life. We of the older generations cannot let this be snuffed out by the same forces that have turned many of us away from our own dreams.

To my comrades in service to the constitution and Lady Liberty, I ask that you consider helping the young. They have the fire and energy to do what must be done. We have the skills to organize and the discipline to make it happen. Remember long ago all of us took an oath to serve, protect and defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Many of us are now disabled. We are older. We are tired and hurt at what we see happening to this land we love so much. I respectfully submit to you, we must rise up one last time to stand with our fellow citizens, young and old, to give the gentle Lady Liberty a real chance to survive.

To the young people who may read this, you are not alone. Many of us sense and in fact have lived the wrongs you see so clearly. Keep your dreams; do not be afraid to live largely. I for one, want to know what you think, what your dreams are, and how may I assist you in having a real chance in reaching them.

Remember my friends; it is up to us, to join together in a common cause to secure our dreams. No one can do it alone. The time for politicians is over. It is time for we the people to take charge in order to secure the promise of America. We each have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Look deeply within, for only you can answer the following question:

If not me, who? If not now, when?

All members of the Alaskan Independence Party, we must decide, are we free or are we the puppets of what is. The filing fee for state house and the state senate is only $30. There is truly strength in numbers and the important thing for us is, do we have the courage to serve our fellow Alaskans. The battle of 2002 is not about power and control, but rather do we have the heart and courage to serve. We have decades of politicians ruling as our representatives. I submit it is high time for us to say in one loud clear voice to the politicians: Your 15 minutes of fame are up. Join us, from every village, town and city of the great land. File for office to serve the people. On primary day the people will sort out which one us they want to go on to the general election in November. That is as it should be, we are not seeking to rule, but rather serve and the people have the right to choose. All will remember your courage and heart for stepping forward and offering to serve.

Remember this my friends, as long as I am on this world, none of you will walk alone in the coming year. I can and will stand beside you. No politician from the highest to the lowest has the right to target you because you volunteered to serve, and those who do, will answer to me.

To all of our guests from around the world, we wish you Gods speed and all of the best. When you get a chance, say a little prayer for us as we will be severely out moneyed and all of the special interests from around the world will unite against us. Do not fret, WE ARE ALASKANS, KEEPERS OF THE PIONEER creed, and we can and will serve Lady Liberty and all of the people of Alaska one last time, so help us God.

Now is the time. Will you answer the call of Lady Liberty? Will you be the one that Alaskans will call to lead the people into the freedom and prosperity we deserve?
