LEGISLATURE BEGINS WITH THREAT OF PFD RAID WHILE ELECTION YEAR LOOMS
Yes..The majority of the Legislature has a plan all right. The plan has not changed since 99 when 83% of Alaskans voted NO. The plan is: Ask for more money to spend. That's it. Plain and simple. They present it all dressed up... Like a Princess dressed up for the Kings Ball. But when you strip it down, it's no different from your teenage kid on Friday night saying, "Dad, I got a plan...You give me more money and everything will be OK." We don't need a plan, the plan we have right now keeps the legislature from spending all they can.
There's no constitutional spending cap introduced and passed, so there is no real desire to stop the spending -- only a plan to keep spending. Sen. Halford and Donley ask for, "Incremental action." They proposed to bring down spending,. then consolidation, a spending cap that has teeth and then possibly more revenue from industry and the people.
The elite and the establishment are backing all this and one might wonder why? Because they know they are not paying their share and oil industry reports show that...So they support taking the PFD or a sales tax so they will get off. Alaskans won't fall for this. They will rise up and take action when the legislature goes too far. The Juneau fog will lift and the voters will be heard...Why is there enough votes to take my child's PFD and there is not enough votes to tax the cruise ship tourist 50 bucks?
In closing: The late Rep. Ramona Barnes last public words printed were, "Since when did Republicans stand for more taxes." This Republican Majority should be ashamed of standing along side of the Anchorage Daily News. It is a sad day when a Republican controlled legislature agrees with one of the countries most liberal owned papers on taxation. Now the party of Ronald Reagan has concluded that taxing or taking more revenue from the people is a "Good Idea."
As long as people insist on electing those who wear "mainstream party" labels you will continue to get this type of government.
